The land of Sashima, blessed with the rich waters and fertile soil of the Tone River system, has nurtured fine tea as a production area close to the northern limit of tea cultivation in the Kanto region.

The history of Yoshida Tea Garden began in 1839 (Tenpo 10), even before the arrival of the Black Ships.

A major turning point for Sashima tea came with the opening of Japan. In 1859 (Ansei 6), it was the tea from "Sashima" that first crossed the sea and was exported to America as Japanese tea.

And now, in the sixth generation of Yoshida Tea Garden, that spirit is being passed down in a new form. The revival of the once almost vanished variety “Izumi” and the challenge of producing domestic black tea (Wa-Koucha).
